Tour of Denmark, around Copenhagen, Helsingor 4/8

Helsingor , at the north east coast with shortest sea distance from Sweden, is just a 40 minutes train ride from Copenhagen.

It is famous for the strategic location and a strong castle, Kronborg castle, was built for defence and to collect tolls from passing traffic. Kronborg castle is in very good condition, is an UNESCO site for a good example of that type of construction in that era.

The explanation in the castle is on the lively side, making it different from Christiansborg or Rosenborg in Copenhagen.

Helsingor harbour has a few inlets built to accommodate big and small boats parking. One of the two huge U shape mariners is drained and converted into a maritime museum.

The new cultural center is an eye catching building that housed a library, tourist information and a cafe. At the very back of that group of building is a spacious good hall, serving ok quality foreign food.

St Mary church , long and tall, very pleasing decoration, with a cloister next to it.

Louisiana museum of Art, north west of Copenhagen and 3 train stop south of Helsingor. I went to see this museum not because of the modern art (that I can’t understand), but to appreciate a new style of museum : covering a large area, very green, with sea view, a group of connected buildings some old some newly built, a lot of walking up and down, in and out, to see all exhibits, and a lot of places to sit down to contemplate, close at 10pm! Great positive experience.
