To me, walking in the forest in Rovinj, Croatia in spring means picking wild asparagus or these purple new shoots of a Holly like spiky bush, "Pungitoppo" in Italian .

Whereas wild asparagus is thin and mildly bitter, pungitoppo is crunchy and juicy, just like home grown green vegetable. Simply stir-fry in oil and salt until soft is enough.
