Vegetable raise bed

Saw this excellent raise bed design in Gunnebo Manor house garden near Gothenburg.

The bed is around 3 feet high, the soil inside is filled to 2 feet deep. In early spring when still cold, sow seeds or seedlings inside, than put the glass frame on top of raise bed. Effectively becomes a green house, the plants has enough room to grow until weather is warm enough.  

Cepes/porcini

While wandering around in the hill near Gothenburg's Botanical garden, saw a lot of cepes right next to the path.

I go mushroom hunting in France and never had been so easy to find cepes as here.

In no time I have gathered a big bag. Some cut into half cm slices and seared in butter until the edges slightly golden, sprinkle some salt on top, they are so fragrant and sweet.

The rest I brought back home and dried for future use.

Giant rose hips

Took a short ferry ride to visit islands near Gothenburg. While walking around the nature reserve in Vrangos island, saw a lot of wild roses growing along the path.

They have huge rose hips the size of small tomatoes.

I have never seen such huge rose hips, and always wonder how to make rose hip jam from normally small dry rose hips, now I know.

I pick up some fallen rose hips on the ground hoping to be able to grow these roses at home, and will eventually enjoy making rose hip jam.

Gothenburg seafood

In Gothenburg there is a good size fish wholesale market, with reasonable varieties of sea fish, lake fish and shellfish. However as a tourist eating in normal restaurants and cafes, the offers available are mainly smoked mackerel, pickled herring, boiled prawn and smoked salmon, they are delicious in their own way.

Gothenburg, Sweden

Beautiful city near the sea, criss-crossed with river and canal. In the old town there are wide roads lined with old buildings, very peaceful with little traffic. More modern buildings and huge shopping centres near the port side with lots of people and noise, like two different worlds.

Even in the centre of town, there are a lot of such "plain" streets, no visual pollution.
