Le Moulin a Vent, La Hague

Nice French restaurant Le Moulin a Vent, La Hague, with a Japanese twist:

Rillet of miso mackerel on squid ink dacquoise

Carpaccio of langoustine with sesame and roasted buckwheat

Caramelised carrot with smoked olive oil and goat cheese

Fillet of Rouget barbet with garden vegetables and black garlic cream

Super light sponge cake with kinato powder (toasted soybean powder) and caramel miso sauce.

Belgium brewery Delirium

Touring Norway - Day 21 Larvik

Another rainy night and day, driving towards Larvik ferry terminal south of Oslo, to take the ferry back to Denmark this afternoon.

Last shopping for our favourite goodies in Norway:

-Local strawberry and cherry

-Local cooked shrimp

-Pure cod liver oil (very good price and no smell at all)

-Brown cheese (actually cooked to thicken goat milk, very high minerals (calcium, potassium, phosphorus, iodine) and vitamins (A, B complex) content, savory sweet, good healthy snack.

Touring Norway - Day 20 Dalen

Going down direction south, for the ferry tomorrow back to Denmark and then home. Norway is big, and takes time to drive around.

A lot of lakes in the area, surrounded by spruce and silver birch, the iconic landscape of this part of Norway.

Went to Dalen in Telemark county, the area with the best climate in Norway.

There is a Sherpa step, from the town centre, up 810 steep steps to the top of the hill.

The site of a farm last lived in 60 years ago, self sufficient, growing oat, potatoes, veg, 3 cows, some goats and chicken, and with a fantastic view.

Found a spot next to a lake nearby, for the last night in Norway.

Touring Norway - Day 19 Eggedal

After crossing the mountain range yesterday back to the east side, landscape is very different, less dramatic than the fjord area.

Driving down south to Eggedal, for hiking the Serpa Steps.  Drove for a long time into deep countryside, really in the middle of nowhere is this trail.

Apparently the whole area, a few hundred hectares of forested area were donated by a lady, for recreational use only, in return for placing a Madonna and child statue at the top.

A natural forest of mostly larch trees, on very boggy terrain, full of mix berry bushes. There is no electricity tower, wire, house or holiday cabin, zero eyesore, very well managed.

A good trail, mixed stone steps and rocky surface, finished in a breeze.

Found a spot next to a lake nearby for the night, dinner is elk sausage with bilberry sauce.

Touring Norway - Day 18 route 55 Lom to Tyin and Jotunheimen NP

Route 55 is another highland pass that crosses the mountain range separating east and west Norway, famous for having out of the world scenery.

First stop is Krossbu in Jotunheimen NP. Recommended by the staff a hiking trail that leads up a gentle slope to right next to Boverbreen glacier. It is easy to see glacier in Norway, but hard to get close to touch it.

This is a great opportunity, the trail is 3 hours return, goes up 300m in 3km. It is not steep, but not a smooth path too , muddy, rocky, shallow waterway, puddles and a final climb on steep irregular rocky ridges.

Seeing a glacier up close is spectacular, the icy curves , the ice tunnel, the glowing blue light under thick ice is so beautiful. The deep crevices on the glacier surface is lethal, can go a long way down. Walking on glacier is available with a guide and with special shoes. I have done that in Argentina and do not need to repeat that experience.

For me the 3 hours return trip is tiring as I am worried of slipping all the time, but appreciate the unique glacier experience.

Carry on route 55, passing snow capped mountains, and then twist and turn up and down the 1460m pass, highest in north Europe. The view is amazing all along, at a view point, very closeby, are rugged mountains all around.

All the way down many switchbacks to Ardals, an industrial town next to a fjord,

Take another set of zigzags over another mountain range to Tyin, passing bare rocks on mossy fields wild landscape,

Stayed next to a river near Tyonosen.
