North west coast Tullaghmore, Ireland 7/7

A huge recreational pier on this coast, built around 160 years ago by the then UK Prime Minister John Temple. He was given a large piece of land (from removing local villagers) in Tullaghmore, where he built his Castle Classiebawn, and this pier, which has never flourished for commercial use.

Told by local, just behind the Pier Head Hotel is the entrance (no sign) to a lobster holding place where they sell to walk in customer too. The owner collects catches (lobster, crayfish, brown crab) from fishermen in the area and keep them for export. The place can keep 40,000 lobsters and with minimum feeding, they can stay alive and in good shape for 6 months. Major markets are France, Spain, Italy and Hong Kong.

North west coast Rosses Point, Ireland 6/7

Famous for evening light at Rosses Point, with Oyster Island just in front, the light, on water, sandy bay, boats, houses, grass is mesmerising. This bay is where Lissadell oyster is farmed.

North west coast Knocknarea hill walk, Ireland 5/7

Another easy hike to the top of Knocknarea hill at 350m, rewarded with 360˚ view of Sligo town and Sligo Bay.

North west coast Raghly head loop walk, Ireland 4/7

Found a loop walk along the coast at Raghly Head, great way to enjoy the coastal scenery with Benbulbin hill in the distance.

The sedimentary layered rocks kept a lot of history of the time when Ireland was not yet split from the landmass at the Equator.

North west coast Lough Gill, Ireland 3/7

Went to Lough Gill, said to be very atmospheric in the guidebook. Not sure why it is described like that, it is similar to most lakes in Ireland.

However found this restored Castle Parke right next to the water, good proportion, with the colour of stone wall and shape of turrets very pleasing to see.

North west coast Ballysadare river, Ireland 2/7

Ballysadare river was once a famous salmon river, on top of being very pretty with mini waterfalls, and right in the middle of the town. It is still very pretty and natural, but with the decline of salmon in the river, it is neglected, even the beautifully built salmon run is left to ruin.

North west coast near Sligo, Ireland 1/7

After summer holiday, it is time to get out for a short camper trip, continue with touring the Atlantic coast, this time focus on the area around Sligo.

A major town in the northwest, Sligo, like all towns and cities here, has a river that flows through the centre, with a few stone bridges to crossover. A lively place with a number of monuments, restaurants and cake shops.
