broadbean |
Last autumn, instead of covering part of
the veg beds, I sowed broad beans, spaced further apart, on all the beds, as
ground coverage and to provide more food in spring.

The beans are growing well and I started sowing
hardy seeds like carrot, beetroot, radish, parsnip and coriander, and hardy seedling
like cabbage, lettuce and parsley among them.

The theory is to use the land
efficiently, the broad bean plants will protect the small plants, and as I start to
harvest the beans next week, will free up space for the vegetables to grow big.
