To be honest, homemade bread is best when freshly baked. After cut open and a day later, the texture harden, normally I use the toaster to revive it, fine acceptable, but lately finding that too hard and dry.
Unsatisfied with that aspect and unwilling to bake bread everyday, I experimented with steaming sliced bread. So fast to prepare, simply place bread on a rack on top of a thin layer of steaming water, just for a minute is enough. The result is soft bread that looks like the starch has swelled up and back to life. So easy to eat, without needing to drink a lot as in the case of toast to get it down!
