| Jurassic coast, Dorset, Uk |
A week ago I was in UK admiring the
Jurassic coast in South Dorset, a sedimentary rock formation aged around 50
million years ago. The layers are preserved in horizontal pattern all the way
along the coast, with a lot of fossils hidden inside.
Yesterday, I was in north coast of Spain near
a small town Zumaia, touring the famous Flysch route, it has exactly the same
rock formation from the same period.
Before land split, this part of Spain was
attached to southern England, with the same rock formation. As Spain separate, the
movement forced the landmass between Spain and France to distort, created the
Pyrenees and pushed the sedimentary rock to be in this amazing upright
direction.
