Some how I always thought that red date is
an Asian plant, mainly grown in China, as it is a popular health food in local
culture.

It is a surprise to see fresh red date sold in
markets in autumn in Croatia, it is sure less sweet than our usual dried
version, but the taste is indeed similar.
Finally I saw a red date tree growing in a
garden, locals said that it is a very common plant and grows wild in the forest
here.

After consulting wikipedia, confirm that
the plant originate in Asia and introduced to south eastern Europe a long time
ago. The plant like hot summer with plenty of rain, and can tolerate cold
winter, making it quite easy to grow in many areas.
