Touring Norway - Day 15 Mardalsfossen

It was another fine day, so lucky.

Drove a long way around a mountainous area Eikesdal, to see and hike the second longest waterfall in Norway.

To see the waterfall was just an excuse, the real aim was to enjoy the scenery in remote areas.

This area was mountainous, in the rugged way, with big emerald lakes. There was a race up the mountain, for all means including running, biking, single wheel bike, electric bike, uphill ski, pretty hard work to get up the steep mountain and on such a hot day.

The path to get close to the waterfall was up a steep slope. There were panels on the path which served as a good excuse to read and rest.

Sad to know that what I saw was only one twentieth of the original waterfall, and only available from 20 June to 20 August. What a shame.

All water is fed to a hydroelectric power plant, even when residents protested against it in the 70’s. The government responded by force clearing away the protesters. This event led to the creation of environmental protection organisation led by citizen to monitor other ongoing and future hydroelectric projects.

Drove to Mittet near the shore for the night, and more evening fishing.
