Tour of Mallorca 7/7 Eating in Mallorca

For foodies , it is a good decision to stay in Palma, a lot of quality shops and eating options.

Food lovers head to mercado Olivar, and the one in Santa Catalina, with well organised, large varieties of local and Spanish produce on display, meat, veg and seafood.

There are a number of small restaurants right next to seafood stalls, serving raw and simply cooked seafood from late morning to 3pm, very good atmosphere.

Cherry, apricot, peach and orange are in season. Our apartment owner provides a basket of oranges and there are freshly squeezed orange juice for sale everywhere. These oranges must be picked when ripen on the tree and are the most tastiest ones I have had for a long while.

A soft croissant like bun called Ensaimada is a must eat in Palma, the one filled with whipped cream is heavenly.

Another local specialy is Sobrassada, cooked pulled pork seasoned with chili and paprika, packed in sausage and cured. Wonderful as hiking snack with bread.

A lot of restaurants offering well presented dishes, all tasty and reasonably priced, particularly like Vemutier La Rosa for tapas, La Bodeguilla for seafood dishes and Arume for the seafood fusion dishes.

However, simply cooked seafood is still the best, with clam, red prawn, squid and razor clam being top of my list.
