Nettle ginger beer

Nettle ginger beer

After the success of dandelion beer, I checked what other foraged wild plants can be used in making home brew. Actually any edible plant/flower/fruits/spices could be used safely, just whether you like the taste that's all.

Great, nettle is also a popular beer ingredient, because it is abundant and nutritious. I do know that it is nutritious but find it hard to use regularly, so making beer is a good way to use it. I added ginger as my last batch of dandelion ginger beer is delicious.

1. Collect the tip few nettle leaves, clean and fill a cooking pot, add as many slices of ginger as you like.

2. Add 2L water, bring to boil, simmer for 5 minutes, rest for another 20 minutes.

3. Filter into a preserving jar, add 150g sugar (white or brown as you like) stir to dissolve.

4. When cool to around 25˚C, add half a teaspoon of wine yeast, mix well, keep in a warm place for transformation.

Consume after 3-4 days.
