Restaurant Dona Nora, Cienfuegos |
Went to Cuba without much expectation on their cuisine, have not read any good comments.
Turned out that eventhough there is not a big menu to choose from, if you go to restaurants recommended by BnB’s host, there are tasty dishes. On top, beautiful pink guava and tasty milk banana are easily available.
Havana, in old town
-restaurant Antojo has the most delicious and beautifully presented fresh lemonade.
Their croquettes are lightly fried and plump with moist filling. The National dish of Ropa Vieja (beef stew) is also tasty.
-Habana 61, nice restaurant with simple honest cooking, appetiser fried malanga is good, slow cooked pork dish also fine, at the lower end of pricing among tourist restaurants in Havana.
Viñales
-restaurant Cubar, modern decor, well layout with tables in two floors, with Spanish influenced tapas on top of Cuban dishes, tasty and good presentation.
Playa Larga
-restaurant Sol & Carib, commonly known as the restaurant under coconut trees, has decent bbq fish and lobster (actually crayfish species), as long as you tell the chef not to overcook.
We checked the bbq and stopped the cooking of flattened lobster after 10 minutes, which is half the time they used to do.
Cienfuegos
-Villa Camila at the end of Punta Gorda, with tables right next to the sea.
The best tasty prawn in tomato sauce, enchilada.
-Restaurant Dona Nora,
at Calle 37 Prado 4222, very nice upstair restaurant with bar table in the balcony, great for a drink with fried malanga, and watching people and classic cars along Prado. Main dishes good quality too.
Trinidad
-Restaurant San Jose,
old classy style place, the best grilled thick pork chop, so tasty and moist. Crayfish enchilada is delicious and meat just cooked.
-Taberna de Botija and restaurant Rintintin, both have good atmosphere and good tacos, plus other simple bites.
