Tour of Brittany, France 2/8 - Dournenez

Turn round to the peninsula below, port town Dournenez with a lot of small pleasure boats parked in the harbour. The area flourished in the 19 C due to the building of the first sardine canning factory in France. Catching sardines became a big business bringing a fortune to many people. Unfortunately what followed is not hard to guess, the collapse of the sardine stock!

The covered market at Douarnenez does not have a lot of choice, go to La poissonnerie du port at the port for better selection.

10 pcs 1.5kg Scallop 9/kg
6 pcs 0.3 kg Praires 29/kg
0.3kg Palourdes rose 16/kg
Cockle 12/kg
1/2 kg Bouquet crevette 68/kg

Euro 61 lunch n dinner

-Palourdes Rose is bigger and more meaty than the type yesterday, shell thicker, a little bit tough,
-Praires, taste similar to Palourdes Rose,
-Cockle very small, opens fast and most tender and umami

My conclusion is that the price of clam link to thickness/ weight of shell (thicker cheaper/kg) more than flavour, which is personal.

It is a rainy day, no outdoor activities, go shopping for wine in Leclerc hypermarket Wine Fair.
