Went to Pointe de Mousterlin for the famous white beach. It is a fine sunny day, clear blue sky and super low tide. The French are out with nets and buckets to collect shrimps and cockles on the rocky shore. They know good food.
Next head to Viviers de Penfoulic , where they keep the shells in huge tanks. We can buy direct or have tasting dishes there. We tried all the different clams that we could eat raw. Then pick 5 we like most and have a repeat. Really fresh and tasty, enjoying a wonderful open view.
This is where I googled and found out that they have Vernis, or Hokigai clam 北寄貝 in Japanese, the biggest clam available here.
They are sweet crunchy and very affordable, at Euro 1 each!!
Bring home for dinner:
8pcs at 8 euro Vernis 7.9/kg
1/2 kg Tellines epaisses 9/kg
1/2 kg cockles 7.5/kg
On the way east, stop at Kerascoet, a village famous for some quaint old thatch cottages left. They are indeed adorable, the pleasing cute proportions, the ladder on the wall, stone decorations, and the well trimmed thick thatch.
Next to Pont Aven, one of the most
beautiful village in France. A mill town before, with the river in the
middle is beautiful, with old stone buildings, water mills, arched
bridges and old trees lining the two sides.
Stay the night near the beach at Le Pouldu, and I saw the biggest moon rise along the way.
