Go to Lorient to shop at Halles de Merville, said to have very good supply of seafood. Big mistake, first it is a big city to navigate around, second the supply is poor, more the lower end produce.
Not much shellfish and no langoustines, they explain that langoustines are too expensive this year because of lower yield, warmer weather, algae pollution and increased octopus that prey on them are to blame. Have to shop in supermarket to supplement supply.
Shrimp 38/kg (very small)
Leclerc
10pcs Praires 8/kg
1/2 Palourde japonaise 20/kg
Cycle
lane north of Lorient at the river bank of Hennebont. It act as a canal
too with locks, beautiful reflections on a fine, calm day.
Lunch at an auberge near Pont 9
Cycle back to Hennebont, drove south to Saint Cado, classified as a town with character, because of the small habited island linked by a 12c bridge. Used to be a great sardine fishing spot in the 18c .
Further down towards Carnac is a few groups of Alignments of giant rocks, in straight rows, in huge fields. We visited the two fields at Kerzerho and Menec. Over thousands of rocks were eracted 6000 years ago. Still no one can come up with a provable theory of the use/meaning of these alignments. Most amazing view, make Stonehenge looks ‘small’.
Stay
at the Grand Sable beach at the top of Quiberon Bay. Sat at the beach
facing east to wait for moon rise. Unfortunately partly covered by
clouds, but the colour of sky is memorable.
