Belgium is famous for waffle, one is the Lierge type, heavy sticky sweet type by Chez Albert near the main square, just a few bites is enough to fill the stomach, total waste of eating quota.

Bruge waffle by Cafe Lissie, light and crispy

The other is the traditional Bruges type, being very light and crispy. Tracked down the best one at Cafe Lissie, XL size waffle, but actually very light and crispy. The owner is friendly enough to disclose the recipe, a yeast based egg flour mixture that they remake every half an hour.

There is no national cuisine in Belgium, very open to foreign taste, the past favorite must be Italian, but Thai and Chinese is catching up fast. The best lunch is at Stupa, quite near the train station, with a big courtyard. The fried rice is pretty good, and the Tung Yam Kung shrimp soup is delicious, for what you can eat there.
