Picked Luzern Switzerland because of it’s suitable location on the route
home, and being next to river and lake always means good scenery.
Quite shocked that it is such a big city, huge modern suburb, even the
town center is pretty ‘modern’, not what I wished, quaint old buildings.
On top, the old town is occupied by brand name boutiques, jewelry and
watch shops, a very sorry sight.

Luckily the hotel receptionist mentioned the old city wall that is worth
a visit. The wall and towers are in good condition and can walked to
the top, for a spectacular view of the city, the hills and lake.
Near Luzern is the Aareschultch gorge walk, an hour return boardwalk
hanging along one side of the gorge cliff surface, built 125 years ago,
fantastic experience.

We are lucky with very sunny weather, took the world ‘s steepest
cogwheel train 2000 m up to the top of Pilatus mountain. There are a
number of easy paths in different directions to admire the views.
Thoroughly enjoyed this 24 hours stay in Switzerland, gorgeous scenery,
fantastic hiking opportunities, great public transport arrangement, we
will come back!
