Touring Norway - Day 5

Another rainy day, drove to Ulvik, a town at the edge of Hardanger fjord. It is on the more lush green side of the mountain where there are a number of hiking trails.

Had a chat with the very friendly staff at tourist office, Ulvik is one of two Slow City in Norway. Meaning the city decided to maintain as a good place to live, while still entertain tourists in small numbers. Basically not like nearby fjord towns that accept cruise ships to park, with 3000 tourists descend to roam round, and turned all shops to cater to tourists business, which then close on low season.

What a good decision.

He recommended a trial in the valley, that on a rainy day, we can feel the power of nature, since there is no point to hike up mountain in a misty day.

We walked into this valley in Osa, to Osette, along a roaring river, so lush green and vibrant, with moss on the ground, small wild blue berry bushes and tall trees. A very different landscape from previous days in the bare rocky mountainous area. A true Norwegian rainforest.

Stay the night next to a river on the mountain route from Ulvik to Granvin.
