Tour of Mallorca 3/7 Hiking on the west coast near Sóller

Chosen a 2 hrs loop walk near Soller, a famous hill town, going from Binibassi to Fornalutx to Biniaraix, walking up and down on ancient mule’s path fron one hill village to another. The hills around are all terraced into farmlands, from antiquity, and still being worked to grow lemon, orange, almond and olive trees. All over the place, there are so many must be few hundred years old thick twisted olive trees, obviously well cared for by locals through many generations.

Breaking the walk at Fornalutx for lunch and walk around, a quaint old hill village with just a few shops, and a farmer selling freshly squeezed juice of home grown oranges, and olive oil.

After the hike, drove to Soller for a visit, a major town in the west coast. The main square and around is packed with tourists, lots of gift shops and restaurants, very noisy and crowded, not matching the charming mountain hideouts location. Probably much better to arrive in early morning or base there to wander around in the evening.

Being on a hill top, Soller is self sufficient with most farm produces, and a short ride to the coast at Port de Soller, with good supply of seafood, no wonder a prosperous location.
