Tour of North Mayo coast, Ireland 3/4 - Benwee Point & Eire 63

Eire 63

Went for a popular 2 hours hike at Benwee Point, on gentle slope looping round the headland. With panoramic views along the way of beach, rugged mountains, sheep and the location of Eire 63.

It was laid using white stones during second world war, on over a 100 locations all round the edge of Ireland. So that airplanes can see that they were flying over neutral Ireland. There is also a watch tower armed by volunteers to spot and report passing over planes.

Stayed the night at Rinroe Point harbour, just in time to greet the returning fisherman with his catch of lobsters and crabs.
