Alaska campervan holiday - Part 3

Along Richardson Highway (finished Denali Highway at Paxson)

Middle Gulkana river, so peaceful,

finally caught 2 Red Salmon. It just has a light flush of pink on the skin, meaning they have not left the sea too long.

Beautiful view of Wrangell Mountain.

A calm evening at a lake near Squirrel Creek,

caught some trout, they are stocked ones,

sparkling trout skin.

Worthington Glacier, has been retreating for the last 30 years.

Chugach Mountain

View near Blueberry Lake

At Solomon Gulch, there is a shallow pool before the up hill salmon run, a bear stationed there to catch them,

the bear eats salmon eggs only and leaves the rest for sea gulls to finish.

There is a salmon hatchery at Solomon Gulch, where millions of Silver, Pink and Chum salmon are hatched, raised for 4 weeks before releasing into the sea. The hatchery has a salmon ladder that resemble natural salmon run up stream, so that only the strong ones can reach the target hatching room.

Valdez, a lively town, fantastic mountains surrounding it,

a feast for the eyes,

picture postcard view. It will be great to arrive Alaska at Valdez than at Anchorage, as Valdez is what I imagine Alaska to look like.

The highly rated Silver salmon is late in their run up the river, every fishermen waiting at Valdez are very frustrated. Using secret weapon, a pink and green fluff as bait, landed a 4kg beauty.

Along Glenn Highway - on the loop back to Anchorage,

Wrangell mountain from another angle

Taslina Glacier

Nelchina Glacier

Matanuska Glacier
