To the west of Uwajima at the end of one of the protruding peninsular is this terrace right next to the sea. The hills are steep and the land on each level is very narrow. It was dedicated hard work to build such grand structure, for survival.
There is a path to walk up the terrace, it is a shock to find that the plant being grown on all these thins strips is potato. Probably the only starchy food fishermen can grow in the area. Found a self serving corner to buy these locally produced potato, at only 300Yen a bag!
The sea, deep clear blue under the bright sun, now has a lot of fish farms, cultivating mainly sea bream, yellow tail and oyster.
