Campervan tour of central north Ireland

In order to see a friend living in Longford, middle of Ireland, 1.5 hours away, we decided to best is to use the campervan for the journey, as we have not visited the north central part of Ireland. A trip from Longford to Roscommon, Boyle, Shannon Pot and back.

The central part of Ireland is bog land, mostly flat, not very scenic landscape. Visited Roscommon Castle and Boyle Abbey, both were built in 12 C and once very grand, but like most monuments in Ireland, left to decay.

Headed to Shannon Pot, the source of the longest river in Ireland and the lake in front of our house. Unfortunately it is closed because of ongoing work to turn it into a proper tourist site. However, the surrounding landscape is pretty, huge bare mountains then green undulating hills, with few houses.
