Tour of North Mayo coast, Ireland 1/4 - Ballina, Killala, Kilcumin
Weather forecast predicts a few days of sunshine, immediately packed the camper and on the run, again. First time to tour this north west coast that stretches from Ballina to Belmullet island. We were told that it is very beautiful during our last visit of Belmullet but couldn’t make it.
Ballina is a biggish town at the east end of the coast, famous with the arched old stone bridge across the river in the middle of the town.
Nearby is Killala, small town with a well preserved tall round tower near the edge of the sea.
Decided to stay the night at Kilcumin, a small pointy bit of land with a harbour. Fisherman brought back a load of good size mackerels….for breakfast lunch and dinner! These mackerels have regained their size after laying eggs, but still have to wait until winter months to be really fatty.
