From grass field to flowery meadow

My house was a cow farm before, meaning that previous owner wanted the land to be mostly grass, for cows to feed on. The normal practice is for farmers to add fertilize to the land, re-sow with grass seed every few years to maximize yield.

This is a sort of mono-culture, there is no diversity to serve as food for insects to survive, so the whole food chain for wild life, from insects to birds to small mammals cannot work.

Since we moved in 6 years ago, we have been working on plowing up different parts of the land every autumn and sow wild flowers seeds, mostly leguminous type that can flourish on land that are not artificially fertilised.

The result is pleasing, the field is so colourful now.
