There are many castles in Shikoku, I visited a few, this one in Matsuyama 松山 is for me the best, high up in the hill, with beautiful giant stone curve protection walls, a big complex with many buildings, many old trees and well preserved wooden interior.
Another end of the Matsuyama town is the famous and oldest onsen in Japan, Dogo Onsen 道後溫泉, currently under renovation. The front entrance is impressive with so many roofs and carvings.
Around the Onsen area there are a few shrines, all worth a look for the magnificent work being done, even though that means a lot of walking up stepes or slopes.
