Continue to have fine weather, drove pass Geilo and up the hill to Prestholtstein, a high mountain pasture at 1,400m. On the way is a wide landscape without any obstacles, manmade or natural. Until you see the mountain, rise up like a frozen wave, and an idyllic farm house in front.
Around 2500 stone steps brought you up to the top, pass the snow line. The top leads to another higher mountain covered in rubble, at 2,000m.
The view is stupendous, from fjord on the right to the string of highland lakes visited yesterday on the left.
These steep steps were laid in the last 20 years to make it less dangerous to hike up, and less trotting on the surrounding vegetation. A smart investment, for locals and now a major tourist attraction.
A slow return trip with a lot of stops took 3 hours, and I feel comfortable to hike up a steep mountain on steps.
Went in the goat farm shop to buy their produce. Goat salami, 3 years aged goat cheese, long cooked goat milk, which they called brown cheese, and kid cutlets.
The brown cheese is very different from Dulce leche, the cow milk version which is caramel sweet. This goat milk version is salty sweet and sticky, full of umami flavour.
