LanHa Floating Homestay |
While researching where to visit in Vietnam, came across this recommendation of avoiding over crowded Ha Long Bay, but go to Cat Ba island instead, for the same karst hills scenery.
What a great suggestion, even better is that there are floating houses to stay on. These are renovated fishermen’s houses with en-suite bedrooms. It is 4.5 hours by cars, ferry and small boat to get to the floating house.
It is a wonderful experience to live in such a pristine beautiful environment.
The first night we go for night kayak, to see florescent plankton. It is a great experience to be out on the calm sea in total darkness, except the bright stars. There are plantkon lighting up as we paddle near the rocks, but not a lot to rave about.
Spend the first day on a private small boat to tour Lan Ha Bay, went to a couple of beaches too. It is winter month and weather is unstable, usually foggy, but we are lucky with a clear day and the view of the karst hills are marvellous.
